Television recording business TiVo Inc. set up a way for its users to show information like news, weather, photos or updates from social networks like Twitter or Facebook on TV. Alviso-based TiVo set up the service, called FrameChannel, with Thinking Screen Media Inc. of Wellesley, Mass., and likens it to “a constantly updating slideshow of information.” Viewers can put sports scores or traffic reports based on their Zip codes on the screen using various apps. Pictures from sites like Flickr or from social network pages like Facebook can also be run as slideshows. The new service is available immediately on broadband connected TiVo DVRs. TiVo started out as a television recording and playback business. But recently it has struck out in new directions, looking for revenue streams and trying to stay ahead of rivals.
